Great Panes

Across the courtyard, a building is visible through a window. A light changes. Someone crosses a room. A dog waits at a door. A conversation begins after the viewer has looked away.

Great Panes is a stylized episodic series about the people in those apartments. Each household has its routines, relationships, animals, unfinished business, and private pressures. Returning to a window reveals what has changed.

Rain, curtains, telescope glass, distant windows, and the observer’s room are part of the view. Short scenes accumulate into a story about attachment, rivalry, care, secrecy, and the pleasure of watching something one cannot fully know.

The building continues

The people wake up, feed animals, prepare food, repair things, leave rooms, return, and try to get through each other. A visit reveals a fragment of that ongoing life.

The first household

An older woman runs a late-night radio program and keeps a failed domestic robot alive. Her daughter regards the machine with suspicion. The robot was meant to care for the woman. She spends much of her time caring for it.

The wider cast

The early cast includes the daughter and her husband, a colorful middle-aged couple, a three-person family, a pair of almost-exes, two dogs, two cats, and a bird. The older woman and robot are the current first test.
