Echoes of Indiana

The first commissioned Echoes installation: Indiana, taking questions. Limestone workers, cultural figures, civic voices, and regional legends, authored from the record and presented in a body of Indiana limestone.

London, 2025. Off screen, a visitor has summoned Mabel, a composite Showers Brothers furniture worker from 1917, and speaks with the apparition on a seven-foot holographic array. Idle state, arrival, conversation. Demonstration recording, silent.

Project summary

Echoes of Indiana is the proof of practice for the Echoes Projects line. Visitors approach the installation, choose from a curated roster of Indiana figures, and speak with an authored presence in real time. The figure is grounded in primary and secondary sources, voiced with period and regional sensitivity, and held within a defined knowledge boundary.

Fabrication specifications are complete. The installation is scheduled. Final documentation (installation photography, visitor footage where consented, partner conversation) will follow the launch.

Persona categories

The roster is selected to show the structure of Indiana, not a roll call of its famous names. Composite figures stand alongside named individuals. Each persona is built with sourced material, written voice and behavioral constraints, and local review.

Industrial and labor

Steel, glass, limestone, automotive, and rail figures from Indiana's industrial centuries. Workers, foremen, and the people who built the infrastructure underneath the state.

Cultural and literary

Authors, musicians, and cultural figures whose work is rooted in or shaped by Indiana. Selected with attention to estate rights and to public memory rather than only celebrity recognition.

Civic and community

Educators, organizers, and community figures whose work is local but not minor. Voices that frame the state from the inside.

Folk and regional

Composite voices of farming, river, and small-town life. Authored as plausibility studies, grounded in regional sources, presented as composite rather than as named individuals.

Material direction

The housing is fabricated from Indiana limestone, the same material that shaped the state's civic and academic architecture across the twentieth century. Visitors converse with figures from Indiana through a portal carved from Indiana stone.

Internal structure, display mounting, service access, power, and network routing are designed into the body. The object is built to belong to the space it stands in, not to be wheeled into one.

What follows the install

Echoes of Indiana also functions as the documentation anchor for the line. Footage, photography, partner conversations, and visitor response from the install will become the case-study record used in subsequent commissioning conversations.

  • Installation photography and short documentary film
  • Cost and scope breakdown for future commissioning conversations
  • Partner and venue testimonial material where shared with consent
  • Visitor reaction and consented conversation excerpts
